Lucille Viola Davey's Obituary
On Tuesday, August 22, 2017 we lost our beloved Lucille V Davey at the age of 89. She was born August 1st in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan to David W. Harder and Ola Kirby Harder. She was the second of eleven children. At age 16 with an 8th grade education she traveled across Canada singing gospel songs with Loenberg’s Trio in churches and religious gatherings. During this period, she met and married Stanley H. Davey. They immigrated from Canada to Portland, OR in 1947 and together had three children, Renee Davey, Garry Davey, and Sharon (Diess) Davey. She was a homemaker until Stan’s passing in 1961. During this period of time her siblings cherished the times they could come and visit their sister in The States. With three children to raise on her own she worked in retail, bookkeeping, accounting, and real estate, continually upgrading her education. During this time she met and married Charles Clarke and moved to Tacoma. Subsequently she had a daughter, Melody Ann Clarke. With four children to raise Lucille supplemented her income by forming ‘The Lucille Davey Trio’, a dance band. She was an accomplished musician, playing the piano, accordion, and organ for many celebratory events around Tacoma. In the late 60’s she became one of the first “whistle blowers” under government protection, fighting for equal pay for women. She also proudly became a nationalized citizen in 1967. In 1984, while living in Olympia and working for the WA State Dept. of Corrections, she met and married Al Goudge. She spent their retirement years loving and caring for her beautiful gardens of flowers, KOI ponds, Samoyed dogs, fruit trees and the popular blueberries. She loved to get in her car and just go to Canada, Wyoming, or California to visit with her family and her grandchildren. In her last years, she treasured sitting at her living room window gazing at Mt. Rainier and watching the many hummingbirds. Lucille is preceded in death by her husband Al Goudge, daughter Melody Ann Clarke; brothers Clifford Harder, Rois Harder, Reginald Harder and sisters Judith Martin and Margerite Wilson. She is survived by her sisters Gladys (David Lawson) and Betty and her brothers, Donald (Cheryl), Kenneth (Marion), and Robert. Lucille also leaves behind 14 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.
