The best ways to describe my Grandfather was that he was a compassionate, loyal, honest, and loving individual who always saw the good in me and others. He loved his family and to say he would bend over backwards for us is beyond an understatement. He loved life and made sure he embraced it to the fullest by holding down his loved ones and doing the things that he enjoyed. My Grandfather, who I referred to as "Opa" taught me to work hard and always brought me back to focus when I would get out of alignment. He didn't always agree with my decisions, however, he loved and treated me no less. Along with his wife (My Grandma, "Oma"), he gave me opportunities that others wouldn't. Opa exemplified toughness and grit as he served 30 years in the United States Army and served in Vietnam twice. That continued after retirement by working for and retiring from the Washington State Department of Corrections. He loved to work with his hands by fixing cars and doing outside work. He taught me that my family is very important and loyalty is essential. I'm blessed to have been in the midst of him receiving salvation, thus spending eternity in heaven. He was able to spend his final moments with those who loved him and I'm truly thankful for that. I'm going to miss the talks about life and sports, but I know we'll meet again. I will honor him and do the things that I know he would want out of me. Rest in Paradise Opa! See you later!
Your Grandson,
Ray
My Grandfather, Lucas L Mays was an amazingly loving, strong and compassionate individual who was a perfect example of what a Husband, Father, Grandfather, and Brother should be. He was an inspiration to his family and family. He has been a hero, pillar, and source of strength to us all. His contagious smile and laughter will be greatly missed by all that truly knew and loved him. He has served as a patriot and leader to our families. May God accept you into his paradise and may your spirit dwell with us all. You will forever live on in our hearts and minds. Until we meet again my dear Grandfather.
