Louise Roberts' Obituary
Louise M. Roberts, a resident of Tacoma from 1941 until 1995, died Thursday, Dec. 26th in San Antonio, Texas at the age of 94.Mrs. Roberts was born in Excelsior Springs, Missouri in 1907 and spent most of her early years in Houston where her father was a physician. She met her future husband, George C. Roberts while working at the Houston department store Sakowitz Brothers, and together they re-located to the Tacoma area. It was in Tacoma where Louise RobertsÂ' creative energies flourished. She initially became involved with gardening, which included participation in many flower shows, serving as a founding member of the Tacoma Garden Club, and participating as a judge in the flower arrangement category at state level competitions. In the early 1950Â's she attended a weaving demonstration and soon thereafter had rounded up enough money to buy a loom and learn the art of weaving. While she enjoyed weaving, it was really the opportunity to engage in the design of fabric that was the highlight of her subsequent 40 years at the loom. She participated in countless shows and won much recognition for her creative efforts.Mrs. Roberts was a member of the P.E.O. and together with her husband actively supported the Tacoma Philharmonic and the Tacoma Little Theatre. She was an early member of Toastmistresses and always credited that experience for giving her the skills and self-confidence to become actively involved with various organizations later in her life. Survivors include two sons, Robert L. of Austin, Texas; and David H. of Woodstock, Vermont and New York, New York; and four grandchildren. A third son, James W. of Carmel, New York, passed away on Dec. 30, 2002. Mrs. Roberts was predeceased by her husband in 1982. Services will be held at Mt. View Garden Chapel on Saturday, January 11th, at 2:00 PM.
