Dear Robin and Jane,

I just returned to Pullman from having Christmas with my dad, and I was so sorry to read of Louis's passing in the Pullman paper. In my days of babysitting Jane decades ago, and in my encounters with him on campus when I returned to Pullman as a graduate student in the late 1980s and 1990s, his kindness always impressed me. And other grad students I knew who took his stats class had very high praise for his teaching.
