Lorraine Matzke Flanagan's Obituary
Lorraine Matzke Flanagan "Mickey"
Lorraine passed away peacefully on May 3rd, 2012 at Merrill Gardens in Tacoma. She was born in St. Paul, Minnesota on May 6th, 1920. Mom was a registered nurse and served in the U.S. Army during W.W.II. She met her future husband Paul when they worked together at a summer boys' camp in Wisconsin. They married and life changed for her when he was recalled to serve in the Korean War. For the next 22 years, as an officer's wife, she lived in Japan, Minnesota, Texas, Germany, and California. Mom loved cooking, baking and gardening. She was very creative in her knitting and sewing and loved arts and crafts. As an active member of the Oakbrook Garden Club, she made many wonderful friends. Her favorite pastime was following the stock market. Mom took pride in being a savvy investor. Lorraine was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Paul Richard, in 1997. She was a wonderful mother to her 4 children and their spouses, Kathy and Wayne Green, Mary and Dan Spriesterbach, Cindy and Scott Farquhar, and Steve and Kari Flanagan. She enjoyed spending time with her eight grandchildren, Kristy and Rick Rasmor, Julie and Pat Earl, Ryan and Le'Anna Spriesterbach, Megan and Kyle Prosser, Erin and Amy Farquhar, Paul Flanagan, and Jon and Autumn Flanagan, who all lovingly called her "Nanny". She was also the proud great-grandmother of 3, with another one due in August. A private family gathering will be held to celebrate her life. She was a cancer survivor; memorial donations may be sent to Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, 1100 Fairview Ave N., Seattle, WA 98109.
