Lorraine Jeffreys' Obituary
May 28, 1922 – April 7, 2013
Lorraine Gabrielle Merchant was born in Tacoma, Washington on May 28, 1922. She was the second child of Charles and Sarah Merchant and sister to the late Jean Favre. She grew up in the McKinley Hill neighborhood where she made many lifelong friends. Lorraine attended McKinley Elementary, Gault Junior High, and graduated high school in 1940 as a proud Lincoln Abe.
While raising her daughters, she worked at Western Clinic as a medical receptionist until she met the love of her life, Jeff Jeffreys, in 1968 and they began their romantic 32 year journey. Lorraine and Jeff enjoyed traveling the world and appreciated each day they spent together. With her vivacious and outgoing personality, she lived with an energy and zest for life that was contagious to all. She was a very willing storyteller and enjoyed encouraging others’ to tell their stories as well. Her eyes sparkled and her voice captured the spirit of the event being told.
She will be missed by many, especially her family, which includes two daughters, Jamaine Fort and Sara Jean Isbell, two stepchildren, Col. John Jeffreys (Teresa) and Jane VanVoorst (Gerrit), seven grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and many other cherished family members and friends.
Lorraine recently wrote in her journal that the greatest lessons she could teach others are to “Always be honest, be a good Christian and Love Life!!!”
Services will be held at Mt. View Garden Chapel, 4100 Steilacoom Blvd. SW, Lakewood, on Thursday, April 11, 2013 at 3:00 PM.
