Lorraine E. Bristow's Obituary
Lorraine Elizabeth Bennett Bristow quietly slipped the bonds of our world on May 14, 2013 in Tacoma, Washington. Lorraine is survived by her sisters Hilda Blaikie and Beverly (Jerry) Ross, and leaves her 3 children, Bryan (Christi), Mary, and Rob, and her two grandchildren, Emily Ann Bristow and Jack Christopher Matheson much richer from her guidance and tutelage. Lorraine was born in Wadena Minnesota on March 12, 1925 to Joseph Bennett and Hilda Olivia Bennett, the fourth of seven children. She will be reunited with her brothers, Joe, Ray and Ed, as well as see her sister Ellen who passed away when Lorraine was but a year old. Lorraine leaves behind a loving extended family including numerous nieces and nephews and lifelong friends.
Lorraine excelled academically, graduating high school as class valedictorian and went on to attend the University of Minnesota, receiving her bachelor of arts in Business in 1947. After working for Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing (3M), she went to work for the University of Washington.
Lorraine met her husband Charlie through the Fireside group at Plymouth Congregational Church in Seattle, Washington. She had left her purse behind, and Charlie, finding the purse, commented to his friend how impressed he was that so close to the end of the month, she still had money. They were married in 1952, and spent 44 years together before Charlie preceded her into the next life.
Lorraine was an avid bridge player, and an active member in the Tacoma Newcomers Club and the American Association of University Women. Lorraine was best known for her baking prowess. Every birthday, friends, relatives, and neighbors would receive their favorite pie, freshly baked. Charlie was the most popular person in his office at Fort Lewis, not only for his charming personality, but also because of all the cakes, cookies and pies he brought to work.
Lorraine cherished her faith and found strength and community at Plymouth Congregational Church where she was a member for over 60 years.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday June 15th at 10am at Horizon House in the Sky Lounge. To honor a life well lived gifts can be made in her memory to Plymouth Congregational Church or a favorite charity.
Arrangements by Mountain View Funeral Home.
