Lorene "Lory" Lochner's Obituary
Lorene “Lory” Lochner passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at the age of 95. Throughout her remarkable life, Lory was an artist, master craftsperson, daughter, sister, devoted Army officer’s wife for over 50 years, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and a generous friend to many.
Some years ago, Lory was asked about her life. With a few edits for clarity, these are her words:
Wisest decision:
“I married my husband, Jack A. Lochner, in 1954.” (Jack passed away in July 2015.)
Greatest accomplishment:
“Four children.”
Terry: born at Fort Campbell, KY (married to Linda Sprowls)
Sherrill: born in Augsburg, Germany (married Mark Hilliard)
Barbara: born at Fort Lewis, WA (married to Ed Anderson)
Debra: born at Fort Benning, GA (married to Geoffrey Doyle)
Pride and joy:
“My grandchildren—Kristin, Tara, Bryan, Erin, Kelly, Avery, and Cameron—and great-grandchildren—Kaylee, Riley, Brianna, and Milo.”
“When the house got dirty, we moved—18 times during Jack’s 25-year Army career! Now settled in Lakewood, WA, where we own an antique furniture restoration business. The disconcerting part now is that people bring furniture in, state that it is an antique, and I am older than the item is!”
After Jack retired from the Army, Lory and Jack worked side by side for many years at Lochner’s Woodworking in Tacoma, WA. Lory was chiefly responsible for mixing and applying stains and paints, as Jack was color-blind—a task that allowed her artistic flair to shine.
Lory lived a very full life surrounded by family and lifelong friends. She will be deeply missed.
Per Lory’s wishes, there will be no funeral service. A Celebration of Life is planned for August 2026 at the Hilliard farm.
