Lorena Juanita Sasser's Obituary
Lorena was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on October 12, 1915 where she grew up and was married. She died on October 12, 2010 in Tacoma, Washington. She is survived by one sister, Gloria Maynor of Cotton Valley, Louisiana and many nieces and nephews. Lorena came to the Northwest in 1945 where she made her home until her death. These years were interrupted by two years each in Japan and Fairbanks, Alaska, always returning to Tacoma. She was employed by Local #612 of the Operating Engineers for 33 years as secretary/bookkeeper. She was a member of Central Lutheran Church, having served in various capacities. She enjoyed children and taught Sunday school for many years at both Central and Lutheran Brethren Church in University Place. On the adult level, she served as Bible Leader for Mary Circle at Central for a number of years, also working with the quilters. The greater part of her years being spent, she became a member of Zion Lutheran Church, L.C.M.S., the Synod of her forefathers. Here she joined in the quilting activities and enjoyed warm fellowship. She resided at the Tacoma Lutheran Home Retirement Community.
Memorials may be made to the Lutheran Home or to Zion Lutheran Church. Committal services will be at Mountain View Memorial Park at 11:30 AM on October 20, 2010. There will be a memorial service in the chapel of the Tacoma Lutheran Home at a date yet to be determined.
Lorena Sasser went to her Lord on October 12, 2010, her 95th birthday, and her earthly remains were interred at the Mountain View Memorial park. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held in the chapel of the Tacoma Lutheran Home, 1301 N. Highland Pkwy, on November 11th, 2010 at 2:00pm. Chaplain Hermstaid will be officiating.
