Steve Cleveland
In the spring of 1993 there were rumors that the IUBAC was going to merge and consolidate the 7 remaining Colorado locals. Like many areas, Colorado had struggled and we were hoping for a positive change. One rainy day several members of Local 7 Colorado Springs including myself had gathered in the business agent's office. My dad Don Cleveland was agent at the time and I asked him what had come of the restructuring plans. He said " I don't know but here is Jerry Carlile's phone number". Dad dialed and handed me the phone. Jerry answered but said he had another call. Could he call me back in a few minutes? Expecting to be blown off I answered sure, not having much faith in a followup. But Jerry was a man of his word and within a few minutes he called back and told me in great detail of the plans for Colorado. He proved instrumental in putting together our merger. Jerry cared deeply for the members and had an amazing memory for names. He could meet you once and a year later greet you with "Hi Steve". A brilliant man with a friendly demeanor, the I.U. and the world could use a few more like Jerry. God bless his wife Pat and his entire family,
Steve Cleveland former president BAC Local 7 Colorado
