Loratta Bachmeier's Obituary
Loratta Bachmeier, born February 21, 1943, passed away quietly on February 22, 2019. She was born in Rugby, ND to Walter and Margaret Wolfe. Loratta was proceeded in death by Leo, her husband of 39 years and infant son Peter. She is survived by her three girls Tammie Bachmeier (Carmel), Helen Baker (David), Sharon Estell (Justin), three grandchildren whom she absolutely adored: Leo, Austin, and Brooklyn, brother Phillip and sister Kathy.
Although she was seemingly quiet, Loratta was best known for her wonderful cooking, especially the German dishes she made during Lent. And while her husband Leo was the breadwinner, it was Loratta who ran the family farm in Spanaway. Loratta had an infectious laugh, a smile that could light up a room and soften the coldest of hearts, could play a mean hand of pinochle, and loved being with her family. She treasured Sunday get togethers at her farm, when her kids and grandkids would all come over, and enjoy meals that Loratta cooked, seemingly with little or no effort.
After moving from the farm in the spring of 2016, Loratta moved to Stone Creek, where she had dozens of friends and always looked forward to spending time with them. She loved finally having her own place with white doors throughout, and toys for the grandkids to play with when they visited. It was important to her to be one of the first at “the girls’ table” for meals so she could visit, and then gather at the hearth to share chocolates with other residents.
Loratta was loved greatly and will be missed dearly, especially by her girls, who were advocates for her care. They never hesitated to question medical staff when treating her, their goal was always to give her the best life possible. Over the years, Loratta continued to defy the medical odds, always saying she would “go when she was darn good and ready to” and did so, one day after her 76th birthday.
