Lola Joan Ovechka's Obituary
Lola J. Ovechka passed away on October 22, 2018 at the age of 85. She was born in Genesee, ID on August 12, 1933 to Clarence and Laura McVay. She lived in Uniontown, WA until the age of 5, when the family moved to Spokane, WA. She attended St. Aloysius School. She had a number of jobs that included being a bookkeeper at JC Penney, a switchboard operator at Gonzaga University, and a concessions operator at the drive-in theater. She liked to roller skate and would go across town with her friends, as often as she could, to the roller rink. It was there, at age 16, that she skated with a cute boy whom she'd never seen before. After the song was over they both went back to their friends. A younger boy then skated over to her and told her that the boy that she just skated with said that he was going to marry her. That cute boy, Ron, became her husband of 59 years. They married in 1951, only 6 days after she turned 18. Being in the Air Force, they moved around the country until finally settling in Tacoma, WA. Having four children kept her busy in the PTA and running to and from sporting events. She loved to make cakes for weddings, graduations, birthdays, etc. It gave her great joy to be a part of their special day. Boating on or floating in, she loved the water. She said it was so calming. She also loved the Seahawks. She was very vocal during the games and, win or lose, she was a devoted fan. Her best times though, were when her family was all together. Those were her happiest days. Lola is going to be missed dearly. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brother Rol. She is survived by her four children, Rick (Leann), Ron (Jeri), Dianne, and Tammy (Rich), sister-in-law Berta, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many other family members.
