Lois Stephens' Obituary
Lois was born in Scenery Hill, Pennsylvania on December 15, 1921 to proud parents Arthur Kefover and Luella Blythe Kefover. She was born in the family home and was the third child in the family, joining older sister Edythe and brother Boots.
She lived in this small village surrounded by family and friends. She had a very comfortable life, despite the Depression. Her father bought her a horse and she thoroughly enjoyed becoming an accomplished rider. She was proud that she and her horse got to lead the county fair festivities when she was a teen. It was shortly later that she met George Stephens, also a Scenery Hill resident, who served in the U.S. Army. They married December 31, 1942.
George and Lois had three children, Richard aka Buddy, Christy and Linda. The family moved to Tacoma, Washington in 1952. In November, 1953, their family was made complete with the birth of Shirley.
Lois was amazingly patient and loving as a wife and mother. She quickly joined the church family and made certain that her children accompanied her and got involved. She played piano and had a beautiful first soprano voice. She sang with the adult choir. She also sang with the Trebleaires and The Ladies Musical Club over many years.
Her personal relationship with Christ was her focus and strength. She spent many years in Bible study groups both as a participant and a presenter. Her multiple Bibles are highlighted, underlined, circled and notes were written on every page!
Lois was a sweet, kind, gentle, honest and forgiving lady. Lois passed away peacefully in her family home. This desire was made possible in Lois' daily life in her Golden years, by Shirley who coordinated all aspects of her daily life to make it possible. Family members, caretakers and hospice supported her daily needs and spent countless hours with Lois.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George and her grandson Christopher. She is survived by many loving family members and friends who adore and miss her physical presence with us. Family members include her children Richard Stephens, Christy Wray, Linda Simmons and Shirley (Rick) Van Horn; grandchildren Kori Stephens, Sean (Cristin) Stephens, Richard (Olga) Stephens, Jonathan (Jamie) Stephens, Darla (Zack) Kolbas, Jennifer Davis, Kelly (Nathan) Brooks, Nathan (Mary) Shuster, Richard (Yvonne) Van Horn, Laura (Stephen) Stump; and 14 adorable great grandchildren.
Viewing will be from 1:00pm to 7:00pm on Thursday, May 25th at Mountain View. Her Celebration of Life will be Friday, May 26th at 12:00 noon at Trinity Church on Tacoma Mall Blvd. (It’s the church with the JESUS CARES FROM YOU sign that you see from I-5).
