Linda Louise Howell (Petersen)
March 21, 1949- February 27, 2025
Linda Louise Howell was born in Tacoma, Washington to Morris and Doris Petersen on March 21, 1949. She joined her parents, friends and many other loved ones in heaven on February 27, 2025. Linda was born into a hard working family. Her father fought in WWll. She attended Fawcett Elementary, Stewart Middle School, Lincoln High School (class of 1967), and Western Washington University. Faith was the foundation of her life. She attended Bethesda Baptist Church for 75 years. She married the love of her life, Larry Kenneth Howell on April, 24, 1970 in this church. Together, they raised three children.
Linda was a bibliophile. She loved gardening, reading, and collecting books. She knew at a very young age how many steps it took to get to the library from her childhood home. She spent many hours visiting bookstores around Washington State until she opened her own store, Park Avenue Books, 30 years ago. Her entrepreneurial spirit has been contagious to her sons.
She is known for her love of the community. She spent several years serving on the PTA, as a golden acorn recipient. Later, she worked for Safe Streets as a community mobilization specialist. She volunteered as a leader on the Southend Neighborhood Council for many years. Linda’s life revolved around faith, family, and her grandchildren. She will be remembered as a phenomenal daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. Her love will live on forever.
She is predeceased by her parents, Morris and Doris Petersen and brother, Daryl Petersen. Remaining to cherish her life, are husband of 54 years, Larry Howell; her three children Justin (Tracie), Adam (Jenn), and Karena (Steve); granddaughters (Lydia, Olivia, Genevieve, and Juliet); grandsons (Stephen, Caiden, and Parker), and brother Ron Petersen.
Viewing will take place at Mountain View Cemetery, 4100 Steilacoom Boulevard SW Tacoma, WA 98499, on Friday, March 21 at 10am to 4pm. There will be a service on Saturday, March 22, 2025 at 10 am at the Garden Chapel at Mountain View, Graveside service at 11:30 am, and a celebration of life at Bethesda Baptist Church on 45th and L in Tacoma, Washington will follow at 12:30pm.
