Lillie K Skrivan's Obituary
Lillie Skrivan went Home to be with Jesus on April 7, 2019 at the age of 93. Born on September 1, 1925 in Johnson City, TN, Lillie was raised on a family farm with 5 brothers and sisters. Even as a young girl, she always had a sense of adventure. Lillie married Gene T. Skrivan on September 5, 1948 and they moved around several times until they finally settled in Lakewood, WA in 1960. Gene and Lillie raised their four children on Steilacoom Lake and she worked for Frank Russell company for 4 years. In the early 1970s, Lillie reconnected with her childhood faith. Her faith played an important role in her life and she was incredibly active in her church Lake City Community Church where she worshiped and served until she took up residence at the Lutheran Home. One of her most faithful roles in the church was serving at the local food bank where she dedicated many hours helping serve the needy in her community.
Lillie was also drawn to travel and took several trips across the world with her husband, sisters and friends from her church. Some of her favorite trips were to The Philippines, Israel and China. Her family fondly remembers when Gene and Lillie took their entire family of four children, their children’s spouses, and all 11 grandchildren on a cruise around the Caribbean to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary.
Lillie loved to garden and loved the beauty found in nature. She enjoyed taking long walks outside and would admire the other gardens in her neighborhood. Her grandchildren remember that on those evening walks, Lillie would strike up conversations with strangers and always made new people feel important and special.
Lillie was a wonderful grandmother and took special delight in spending time with her grandkids whenever possible. She took them on hikes through Snake Lake where they would spend hours having adventures and watching ants build their hills. She always had annual zoo passes with plenty of tickets to bring as many grandchildren as possible. She loved to take her grandkids shopping, to McDonalds, and even let them walk with her in the Sound to Narrows a few times.
Once her grandchildren had their own children, Lillie was a very loving great-grandmother to those little babies as well. She was tickled with the stories of their mischief and loved to hear about their personalities as they developed. Even with 11 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren, she always remembered birthdays and was faithful to send cards with stickers to her family around the world. She prayed daily for each one and knew the goings on in each of their lives.
Lillie was preceded in death by her husband Gene in February 2006. She is survived by her four children, Patricia (Norm), Michael (Nancy), Timothy (Laureen) and Douglas (Dolores), her 11 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. Services for Lillie will be held at Lake City Community Church (8810 Lawndale Ave SW Lakewood, WA 98498) on April 17, 2019 at 12pm and she will be buried beside her husband at the Tahoma National Cemetery in Covington, WA. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Lake City Community Church Food Bank: 8810 Lawndale Ave SW
