Lewis Harrey's Obituary
Lewis Harrey, 90 of Lakewood, Washington passed away on May 16, 2023 in his home after a long battle with the effect of Agent Orange.
Lewis is survived by his wife of 68 years, (Mary) Annette and his daughter Lou Anne and his sister Phyllis. He leaves behind his Grandchildren Richard & Kim, Glen and Pamala Stefani and Ricky and Leslie & Ryan. Also Great Grands: Mateo, Joey, Eva, Lizzie, Jack, Esme, RJ and Harrison. Along with many cousins, Nieces, Nephews and many friends.
He is preceded in death by his son Douglas, Granddaughter Katrina, his parent Marion and Gladys, brothers Clayton and Kenneth and sister Mary.
Lewis joined the army, right out of high school. Out of boot camp, he went to Korea in 1952 and was sent to the field upon being shot at, He stated "that is when I traded my rifle for a pencil and became a supply clerk"
When he returned to the US, he became engaged to Annette and they were married in Corning, NY in 1954 and they moved to Ft. Bragg, NC. During his Army career, he went to France, two tours in Korea, Vietnam and Germany. Lewis retired in 1979 as a Chief Warrant Officer 4 as a Property Book Officer with 27 years of service. His achievements were a Bronze Star and the Legion of Merit.
Lewis volunteered at the Pierce County Sheriff and then moved to the Lakewood Police Department when it first opened and was hired at 74 to be the Quartermaster for the Department and retired at 76
His favorite things to do was reading, carving, later in life supervising everyone he could especially his daughter and telling old stories.
Services will be held on July 24 at 10:30, Tahoma National Cemetery, Kent, WA where he will also be interred
