Lewis H. Benton's Obituary
On Friday, August 15, 2003, the Lord called home his faithful and devoted servant Lewis. A job well done, his duty completed. Lewis Howard Benton, affectionately know as, Â"Brother BÂ" passed away peacefully at his home in Tacoma, Washington. 96 years old, he was born to George Benton & Mary Â"IdaÂ" Smith-Benton on October 24, 1906 in Monticello, Georgia. He was the 9th child and last surviving sibling of 11 brothers and sisters. Lewis left Monticello for Atlanta, GA in 1932 where he worked as a salesman. During WWII he served with the US Navy Â"SeabeesÂ" in the South Pacific; after the war he moved to Los Angeles, California. He became a member of Phillips Temple CME Church in Los Angeles where he met and married his wife Josephine Marie Jolet who preceded him in death in 1979. He retired in 1971 from Park La Brea/Metropolitan Corp. Lewis moved to Tacoma WA in 1988 to enjoy and live out his remaining years with his son. Lewis was a member of Miles Memorial CME Church in Tacoma and belonged to many other social and service groups. Lewis is survived by his son, Tobias Benton; daughter-in-law, Andrea (Renee) Benton; granddaughter Tayleur Benton; nephews, Robert Benton of Maryland, Anthony Hester of California; nieces, Elizabeth Caldwell of Maryland, Ruby Boykins, Dorothy Andrews & Linnie Nelson of Georgia; and many other family, friends and neighbors.Funeral services will be held at 9:30 A.M., Monday, August 25, 2003, at Miles Memorial CME Church, 1601 S. Â"LÂ" Street, Tacoma, WA. Interment at Forest Lawn Memorial Cemetery, Hollywood Hills, Los Angeles, CA.Donations may be made in the memory of Lewis H. Benton to CCS Hospitality Kitchen, 1323 S.
