I am so sorry to hear of Lew's death. I first met Lew when he was the Director of Financial Aid at the University of Puget Sound. I was fortunate enough to have worked for him at the Council for Postsecondary Education when he was employed as the Director of Internal Operations. I first met Lew, in 1958, at the College of Puget Sound. Lew was a respected upper classman. Later when Lew worked for the University of Puget Sound he helped me with student loan procedures. Lew and Clara Mae were very supportive of my efforts when running for elective office. Janet worked with Lew at the Knapp College of Business and grew to respect him for his integrity. Dear Clara Mae and family--I was saddened by the news of Lew's passing. He was a wonderful friend and coworker. Lew was, indeed, a pioneer in the field of student financial aid. When I became the first person assigned full responsibility for student aid at PLU in 1965, Lew, already a veteran in the field, was the one I turned to most for advice. Lew was a friend to all who knew him. I worked alongside Lew at UPS for several years and I have never known anyone as concerned with the well being of our students as Lew Dibble. He was a joy to be around and one of the valued members of the Dr. Thompson/Dick Smith team which led the UPS family to new heights in the 60s and early 70s. He will be missed by many of us who admired his dedication and loyalty,

I was a student at U.P.S. in the early 1960's. Each semester I would go into Lew's office and he'd help me figure out how to get through that next period of time. Because of his willingness to help, I feel he was very instrumental in my ability to complete my college degree. Lew & I attended CPS together in the fifties. I always enjoyed taking our class breaks together with Lew out in front of Jones Hall. I was attending school on the GI Bill as were quite a few other veterans at the time. So we had quite a bit in common. I will always remember my time with Lew and admire him for all of financial aid & help he always found for students that were in need of financial assistance.
