Lettye W. Appleby's Obituary
Lettye Mae Appleby (Wigginton), 89, of Lakewood, Washington, passed away peacefully June 24, 2017. She was born in Island, Kentucky on July 23, 1927 to Albert B. and Mary G. Wigginton. The family later moved to Ohio where, after high school, Lettye went to business school and studied bookkeeping. Shortly thereafter, she married Phillip E. Appleby (Ohio) in 1946.
Lettye was known as “Lindy” to her grandchildren and to those with whom she felt close. She was a homemaker who loved spending time with her family, she loved music and listened to it often, sometimes dancing, to everything, as it filled her home. She was a voracious reader, concentrating on historical fiction and suspense novels. Lettye was also an avid crossword puzzler and relished working on them with her husband sitting across from her at their kitchen table. She loved flowers and “trenching” in her backyard with Phillip, her loving husband of 70 years. Many afternoons were spent selecting new rhododendrons to plant in their spacious yard in Lakewood. She knew all the names of her favorite flowers. Lettye was passionate about figure skating, watching every broadcast, critiquing the skaters as well as the judges and sharing this passion with special friends.
She is survived by her husband, Phillip. Her children; two daughters, Anita (John D.) Crabill and Claudia (Roger D.) Clements and a son Andrew E. Appleby. Five grandchildren, Alex and Jeffrey Crabill, Stewart (Danielle Rawson) Germain, Heather (Juan) Rodriguez and Addison (Sven Berger) Appleby. Four great-grandchildren; Ione V. Rawson and Pikas G. Germain, Maya V. and Benjamin J. Rodriguez. She is preceded in death by her son, Michael J. Appleby.
A closed casket visitation will be held 3:00-5:00 p.m. Friday, June 30, 2017 at Mountain View Funeral Home, Lakewood. A reception celebrating her life will be held 11:00 a.m. Sunday, July 23, 2017 in the Celebration of Life Center, Willow Room at Mountain View Funeral Home & Memorial Park.
The family wishes to thank all of those who cared for their mother. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Multicare Hospice.
