Lester M. Bona's Obituary
Lester Murray (Les) Bona, age 100, died on Tuesday, December 26, 2017 at Tacoma General Hospital in Tacoma, Washington.
Les was born on September 15, 1917 to Harry M. and Mildred Bona at Tacoma General Hospital. He graduated from Lincoln High School and attended College of Puget Sound and Montana State. He was commissioned into the Army Air Corps during WWII, serving as a B29 Bombadier Navigator. On December 26, 1941 he married Louise Estelle Dahl, also of Tacoma. Les worked as an executive for West Coast Grocery from 1945 until his retirement in1987.
Les will be remembered for his dedication to service and commitment to the city of Tacoma as well as Pierce County and the State of Washington. He was an active member of Kiwanis Club of Tacoma for nearly 70 years. His accomplishments include Past President of the Tacoma area Chamber of Commerce, President of the Tacoma/Pierce County Economic Development Board, board member of the Washington State Food Dealers Association, founding board member of the Emergency Food Network of Tacoma, as well as board member of Mary Bridge Children Hospital. He lobbied the Washington State Legislature and the US Congress in Washington DC on behalf of the food industry.
Les is survived by his three children, Bart (Suzanne), Susan and Tom, two grandchildren and four great grandchildren. His wife, Louise, preceded him in death in1980.
