LeRoy D. Anderson's Obituary
Le Roy (Andy)Dana Anderson, passed away September 11, 2012, in Tacoma, WA.
He was born to Irene Marie (Leonard)Anderson and Roy Soule Anderson on June 4, 1921 in Missoula, Montana. He had two sisters, Marian and Carol.
The family moved to Spokane, WA and then settled in Coeur D' Alene, Idaho where Andy grew up. He loved to fish and take walks around Lake Coeur D' Alene with his mother and his dog Sport.
Andy attended Bonner's Ferry High School where he played in the marching band and met his future sweetheart and wife, Dorothy (Debbie) Bowell. Upon graduating from High School, Andy enlisted in the Army during WWII and served part of one term in the South Pacific in the 148th Field Artillery in Australia, where he played the drums in the band to keep up "the spirits of the boys!"
After the war, Andy attended the University of Idaho on the G.I. Bill, majored in Architecture. He was a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity. On June 7, 1946 He married Debbie. Upon graduation they moved to Aberdeen, WA in 1948, then Lakewood, WA in 1950 where they raised their family of four daughters.
Andy Started his career as a partner in his Architecture firm in Lakewood, later becoming an architect for BOEING in Kent, WA. In 1969 he transferred to the Washington State department of Transportation until his retirement.
Andy was proud of his Scottish heritage and was an original founding member of the Clan Gordon Pipe Band of Tacoma, WA. He played snare drum and spread the Highland spirit! Andy was also a member and master of his local Masonic Lodge #299 and played drums in the Affifi band.
His hobbies included woodworking, Zen gardening and architectural interiors, all of which he shared with his beloved wife.
LeRoy (Andy) is survived by his four daughters, Darice Anderson, Lyris Marie, Lael Turnbow, and Dayna Anderson. His sister Carol Hall, sister-in-law Louise Rathbun, five grandchildren, six great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A memorial will be held at the Chapel at Mountain View Funeral Home, 4100 Steilacoom BLVD. S.W., Lakewood, WA 98499, on October 20, 2012 at 2:00 p.m.
