Lenore H Armstrong's Obituary
Lenore Helen Anderson Armstrong On Saturday, August 15, 2015, Lenore celebrated a grand day, visiting with her immediate and extended family, sharing memories, hugs, smiles, and laughs at the 20th Anderson Family Reunion. She returned to her home in Tacoma later in the evening upon her wishes, and on this day she was called home by her Lord and Savior. Lenore was born in Tacoma on November 15, 1932 to Harry and Edna (Brosdahl) Anderson. With her parents, along with her brother Robert, sister Phyllis, and younger brother Harry Newell Jr., living in the Fern Hill area, and by Wapato Lake on South L Street. She attended Tacoma Public Schools and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1950. Lenore married Stephen Armstrong in July 1956, and they were blessed with three sons, Wyatt, Douglas, and Dennis. They lived in the South End by Wapato Lake, where Lenore has lived for 54 years. She loved her calling as a mother, and was fully dedicated to supporting her husband and sons in all endeavors. Lenore's family grew when her sons married, and their families grew, making her a proud grandma and great-grandma. She loved being a sister, and an aunt to nieces and nephews. She loved having family and friends at her home. She cherished all gatherings at other relatives' and friends' homes. Lenore worked for Crown Drug, Park N Shop/Mayfair Market, Payless of Tacoma, and Target throughout the years. In 1995 she retired as a retail clerk. She also worked at Birney Elementary, as a recess aide and as an aide in the hearing impaired program. She took sign language classes and learned to sign extensively. She was involved in her community, volunteering with the PTA and South East Optimist Club as her children grew up. She received the Golden Acorn Award for exemplary volunteer service. In 1991 she earned a Certificate of Accomplishment for completing the Tacoma Police Department Citizen Academy. She was a proud member of the Angel Collectors Club of America - Pacific NW Division for over 20 years. Lenore was a lifetime member of the Lutheran Church and congregation member of United Lutheran Church. Her hobbies included travel, caring for her patio plants and flowers, watching the hummingbirds at her numerous hanging baskets, playing Yahtzee and Rummy, and watching the Seattle Mariners. Lenore was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, and Stephen. Lenore is survived by her three sons, including their families, Wyatt (Sheryl) of University Place, Douglas (Terri) of Edgewood, and Dennis (Joyce) of Vancouver, WA, grandchildren Daniel (Veronica), Natalie (Mason), Zackary, Allison, Brian, Ross, Emily, and Jack, great-grandchildren Violet and Morgen, and sisters-in-law Helen (Robert) Anderson and Patricia / Pattie (Newell) Anderson, along with numerous nieces and nephews and their families.
