Lena Madeline Halverson's Obituary
Went home to the Lord January 11. Born in Missouri in 1924, the family moved to Longview, where she graduated from high school and trained to be a hairdresser. Lena practiced the art of hair dressing for over 30 years. She married Lester Finkas in 1943, who rose to the rank of Colonel in the U.S. Air Force. They were stationed in California, the Panama Canal Zone, and in Germany, where Lester commanded a radar base in the British sector. In 1974, Lena married Sidney Halverson, who owned Halverson Fish Market in Tacoma. Together they traveled and remodeled real estate holdings. Preceded in death by her husband Sidney, she will be greatly missed by her sister Hermena Murray, her son John Finkas and his wife Linda, stepsons Lowell Halverson (Diane), Darrell Halverson (Stephanie), and grandchildren Clark and Ciara Aylsworth, Liana Montague (Tom), Ward Halverson (Kimberly), Adam Halverson (Theresa), Lindsay Lecour (Manuel), and nine great-grandchildren. Burial Mass will be held Friday, January 22, 2010, 11AM, at St. Mary's Episcopal Church, 10630 Gravelly Lake Dr. SW, Lakewood. Memorials in Lena's name may be made to the Franciscan Hospice and Palliative Care, 2901 Bridgeport Way W., University Place, WA, or St. Mary's Episcopal Church.
