Leland Maurice Howden
B. 4/22/1931 -" D. 2/5/2010
Leland lived a very full life. He was born in Portland, OR and spent his younger years between Oregon, Wisconsin and California. In his working years, he served the United States in an active duty capacity as a Marine for 4 years and in the Air Force for nearly 24 years. After his retirement in 1972 from active service, he went on to be a civil servant. In that role he served the Navy and Coast Guard, thus touching all services of the US military.
Lee loved camping, hiking, canoeing, and travel. While he managed to travel to nearly all the continents of the world, he had a penchant for getting lost. One of his favorite phrases was that he had been -Å"lost in some of the most famous places of the world.- He travelled alone and with an entourage that included his wife, 5 children and an assortment of family pets. He was also very active in the Boy Scouts. His (involvement with the scouting world covered the US and Europe. He touched many young people with his service and was fondly thought of as a great scoutmaster.
Lee is survived by his wife Joan of 56 years, daughters Linda, Lori, and sons Roger, Thomas, and Garry and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Services will be held Thursday, Feb 11 at 11am at Mountain View Funeral Home. (In the Garden Chapel)
