Lela Mae Mathes' Obituary
Lela Mae Mathes, also known as “Aunt Sis”, went to rest and be with the Lord on March 23, 2025. Married for over 60 years to Pastor Clarence T. Mathes, Lela lived a full life of love. Both dedicating their lives to the Lord, they gave their time to helping others. Over the years, Pastor Clarence served as a Deacon, Minister, and Ordained Pastor while his wife, Lela, dedicated her time on the Usher Board, Stewardess and Missionary. Lela also studied the Word regularly through Bible Study and meeting with family and friends sharing about the Women of the Bible. They both enjoyed attending many reunions spending time with their families across the country. Lela was born in Vincent, Alabama on January 15, 1933, to parents Frances Threatt-Lee and Amos Lee, she lived in Minneapolis, MN, Tacoma, WA, Paris, AR and then returned to finally reside in Tacoma. Lela was a wife, sister and auntie loved by many. Preceded by death are her parents, her husband, Pastor Clarence T. Mathes, brothers, Fred Lee (wife Daisy Lee) and Arthur Lee (wife Annie Lee), nephews Ray Lee and Fred Lee Jr., and niece Diane Lee. She is survived and loved by her sister, Ivory Ryder, nephews Kenneth Lee (wife Yvette Lee), Melvin Lee, Shaun Lee, and Alan Lee, her nieces, Desiree Lee, Shavonne Lee, and Chevelle Lee. She is loved by her cousins, Terry Threatt and Eddie Threat and many others. She is loved by her great nephews, Christopher Lee, Kyle Lee, Jeremy Lee, Joshua Lee, Ezekiel Lee, Isaiah Lee, Shaun Lee Jr., Marvin Spencer III, Joseph Mensah III as well as great nieces Mercedez Bournes, Tiffany Clemons, Savannah Lee, Shantia Lee, Denise Lee, Danelle Lee, and many others. She is loved by her great, great nephews, Achilles Lee, Mekhi Spencer, Zion Lee, Tyreque Clemons, Trevon Clemons, Caiden Clemons, Michael Lee, and great, great nieces Danae, Kathyrn, Alessandra and many others. Her extended family includes her close friends Bernice and Clarice and a host of brothers and sisters in Christ. Lela’s family would like to thank the members at Miles Memorial CME Church, the staff and friends at Kings Manor and Gibson Gardens, the Pierce County Fire Department and Mountain View Funeral Home.
