Leiden Diaz Ortiguero's Obituary
Beloved Mother, Grandmother, and Community Leader, Leiden Diaz Ortiguero, age 72, passed away on Friday, December 20, 2024, surrounded by love and prayers in Spanaway, Washington. Born in the Philippines, Leiden brought warmth, kindness, and a strong sense of community to everyone she encountered.
Leiden was a devoted wife to her husband, Valeriano Ortiguero, and a loving mother to her daughter, Valerie Chittick. Above all, she cherished being a grandmother to Amelia Vahle and Brandon Chittick, who brought her endless pride and joy. She often spoke with great love and admiration of her grandchildren, always eager to share their accomplishments and bright futures with others.
Leiden was a woman of deep faith and was a dedicated member of Spanaway United Methodist Church. Her beautiful singing voice filled the church choir and uplifted the congregation for many years. She was known for her unwavering commitment to her church family and her tireless efforts to serve others.
In addition to her spiritual work, Leiden was deeply involved in the Filipino community in the area. She shared her heritage through a local cultural group “Sampaguita Cultural Society,” and she enjoyed teaching younger generations about Filipino traditions, making sure the culture lived on in the community. Her love of music and culture were ever-present in her life, and she used both to enrich the lives of those around her.
Leiden also dedicated her heart to teaching young children as a preschool teacher. She touched the lives of countless families through her patience, kindness, and passion for early education. She was a gentle soul with a nurturing spirit, and her influence will be remembered by all those whose lives she shaped.
She leaves behind her beloved husband, Valeriano; daughter, Valerie Chittick; grandchildren, Amelia Vahle and Brandon Chittick; and many relatives and friends who were touched by her warmth, generosity, and love.
The viewing will be on Thursday, January 16th from 10:00-4:00pm. Her funeral service will be on Friday, January 17th at 10:00am, where her life of faith, love, and community will be celebrated. Both events will be at Mountain View Funeral Home in Lakewood, WA.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Spanaway United Methodist Church or a charity of your choice in her honor.
Leiden will be deeply missed, but her legacy of love, faith, and family will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
