Lawrence Owen Todd
Larry passed away on February 5, 2012 at the age of 89 after a brief illness. He was born January 10, 1923 in Baxter Springs, Kansas to John and Anna Todd. Larry was raised in Missouri and Wyoming and graduated from Rawlins High School in Wyoming. He joined the US Navy in December 1940 at the age of 17, and was a survivor of the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. After his tour of duty, he joined the Navy Reserves and was called back to serve in the Korean War. After the war was over, Larry remained in the Navy Reserves and retired after a total of 40 years of service. He worked for the City of Tacoma Police Department Radio Division for 32 years. Upon retiring, Larry and Marge traveled frequently. A favorite destination was Hawaii, with their last trip there being December 2011 for the 70th anniversary of the Pearl Harbor attack. Larry was a charter member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church. He was also a member of Joseph Warren Lodge F&AM, White Clover and Vida Chapters OES, Pearl Harbor Survivors, Retired Police Association, and Retired Firefighters Association. Larry will be remembered by his family and many friends for his sense of humor and quick wit. He loved being with his family and was always ready to lend a helping hand whenever needed. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Larry was predeceased by his parents, and his brother Robert. He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Marjorie, his four children, Michael (Judy), Susan (Ivars), Kathryn (John), and Richard (Lisa), nine grandchildren, Corey (Rhonda), Melissa (Jason), Brett (Erin), Gregory (Michelle), Eric (Allison), Kevin, Jayden, Carson, and Cameron, seven great-grandchildren, Lara, Lowen, Connor, Elijah, Landon, Kaia, and Alexandra, and his sisters Mildred and Peggy. Viewing will be held Friday, February 10, 2012 from 12:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Mountain View Funeral Home, 4100 Steilacoom Blvd. SW, Lakewood, Washington. A memorial service for Larry will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2012 at 2:00 PM at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 3315 S. 19th Street, Tacoma, Washington. A gathering will follow in the church social hall. Donations in Larry's name may be made to Gloria Dei Lutheran Church or to Franciscan Hospice House.
