Lawrence Leo McCarren's Obituary
Lawrence Leo McCarren was born on the family farm in Becker County, Minnesota on July 30, 1919. He passes away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Christmas Day, December 25th, 2007. As a teenager and young adult during the Great Depression, he worked diligently to help support his family. In October 10, 1940 he joined the Minnesota National Guard and was mobilized for active duty on February 10, 1941. He was stationed in various posts before being shipped over to fight in Germany during the Battle of the Bulge. Following the War, Lawrence briefly returned to Park Rapids, Minnesota until rejoining the Army in 1948. He proudly served his country until his retirement from active duty in 1963. Although Lawrence retired from the Army, he did not retire from work or life. He chose to work for the State of Washington helping juvenile delinquents find a better path in life. He worked at this endeavor until his last retirement in 1984.Lawrence was a dedicated family man and deeply cherished his time with them and his many treasured friends. When recently asked what his favorite job was, he replied "Being a Dad!" His second favorite job was serving in the Army as a 1st Sergeant guiding his "troops". His home was always open to anyone who might drop by, making them all feel welcome and comfortable.He was preceded in death by his dear wife of 43 years, Arlyne as well as his mother, father, one brother (Bob) and two sisters (Esther and Betty).Lawrence is survived by this wife Alma, his children, Jane (Duane), Larry (Carmen), Pat (Tina), Rob (Carla), Dana and Jacquie (Galan) and his step-daughter Roxanne (Jon). He is also survived by 8 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and his brothers Walter and Don and sister, Delores.
