Lawrence Lester Joseph Douglas' Obituary
Lawrence Lester Joseph Douglas, 72, of Gig Harbor, WA left us to fly with the angels December 26, 2018. Born February 17, 1946 in Detroit, MI, one of 17 siblings, Larry is survived by his loving partner of 19 years, Joan L. Smithey, daughter, Lourisa Douglas, grandson, Angel and stepson, Eli Jacobson. Larry spent his youth around the influence of his Cherokee Grandfather who was a Shaman learning talents like fire reading. As an adult Larry worked as an auto worker at Cadillac, a nurses aide, an apartment and maintenance manager, and finished his working career as a cross country truck driver due to an injury that ultimately disabled him. It was at this time that Larry met Joan and became a part of her family: Joey, Priscilla, Cleve; and grandkids, Nicholas, Jacey and Christian. Larry traveled with Joan to reside in CA, OR, HI and finally Washington state in 2015. Some of Larry’s favorite pastimes were watching movies, playing bingo, collecting knives and watches, and going to garage sales. One of Larry’s favorite claims to fame was that he was cousins with the famous country singer, Bobby Bare. Larry was always such a thoughtful, kind, patient and loving man. He will be missed by many. We pray that “his lady”, St. Therese of Lisieux, France, will watch over him as he begins his next journey. We are grateful for the spiritual guidance and friendship for Larry from his friends, Reverends Dan and Robert. We wish you peace and joy, Larry. We love you.
A graveside memorial service will be held for Larry on Sunday, January 27th, 2019 at 2:30 p.m. at Mountain View Memorial Park.
