Lawrence Mack Beavers' Obituary
Lawrence Mack Beavers passed away on September 10, 2013. He was born on April 19, 1933 in Austell, Georgia and was the 5th child born to Mr. George C. and Mrs. Laura C. Beavers. Growing up he was a member of the Bethesda Baptist Church with his father and a member of the Causey Chapel Baptist Church with his mother and sang in both of their choirs. Lawrence received his elementary, middle and high school education in Colb County, specifically in Austell located in Marieta. After graduating from Lemon Street High School in 1951 he joined the United States Air Force. While in the Air Force he was a Supply Officer and developed a keen detailed ability to write, inventory, organize and save everything. When he went grocery shopping, he would neatly write every single item he needed and provided all details; quantity, ounces, and specific details “Colgate quantity one 7fl oz-Advanced Whitening”. Lawrence proudly served his country for 23 years and during this time was stationed in Korea, Vietnam, Spokane and Japan. While he was stationed at Itazuke Air Force Base in Fukuoka Japan, he got married and had two children. His first son Lawrence Tyrone Beavers was born in 1959 and his 2nd son Martin Luther Beavers was born in 1961. On June 1, 1975 he retired as a Tech Sergeant from the USAF. He then embarked on a second career with Pierce County Transit and retired in 1999 after 24 years of service.
Lawrence loved watching NBA basketball, the Major League baseball playoffs and watching his grandsons Cory and Mario play sports. He also loved researching & following black history, was an avid follower of cars and trying out new restaurants. He was disciplined, structured and believed in hard work. Even though he let his sons Larry and Martin have a lot of fun he also made sure they balanced it out and focused on their academics and chores – cut the grass, pull weeds, wash the interior & exterior of all the cars, change oil/oil filter/spark plugs, vacuum the house, wash the dishes and dust the furniture. Of course, after we did our chores we always had to pass dad’s inspection. If we failed we had to do it over and do it until we passed inspection. He along with Miyoko Fine (former spouse) did an excellent job of raising, providing for the family, teaching, coaching and mentoring. This support helped both sons become very successful with their family and in their careers.
Lawrence leaves to mourn his loss the following people:
