Lavetta "Jean" Pike's Obituary
Lavetta Jean Carr Pike was born in Cleburne County Arkansas on 25 May 1933. She passed away at 6:05 PM on Sunday evening, 28 June 2020 at her home in Denver, Colorado at the age of 87. She is survived by her daughters Janice Pike George and Debra Pike Weinman. Her husband, Doyce Ray Pike, her daughter Darlene Pike Whitbeck and her son Donald Ray Pike preceded her in death. She grew up in northern Arkansas near Heber Springs, Arkansas. She was the oldest of 12 children.
She married Airman First Class Doyce Ray Pike 5 February 1952. She became a supportive wife accompanying her husband to his duty stations in Arizona, California, Massachusetts, England, and Missouri. Lavetta Jean lived in Heber Springs, Arkansas while Doyce was in Iceland and Korea. Doyce finally retired and the whole family settled in a home in Tacoma, Washington.
Doyce a Baptist pastor after military retirement and Jean took on the added roll of being a pastors wife. She kept her family in church teaching them the ways of God. She showed strong leadership in the church by being a teacher in Vacation Bible School, a counselor at church camps and Sunday School teacher. She was an energetic volunteer in the community and the Girl Scouts.
She is survived by 13 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren, and 10 siblings.
