Lavern Susie Pomerinke's Obituary
A Celebration of the life of Laverne Pomerinke Laverne was born in 1922 in Fairview Oklahoma as part of a big family. She had 5 brothers and 3 sisters. She was raised on the farm and would share many fond memories of her life growing up in the country. Laverne lived most of her adult life in the North West. With her husband Chet and children Charlotte, Carol, Roy, and Danny. They lived in Orofino, ID. (near Lewiston) where they operated and ran a box factory. They also managed a golf course in Grangefield, ID. The family moved to the Puget Sound area and resided here from 1969 on. Laverne was employed in many different areas ranging from the family businesses, restaurants, and even working for a state mental hospital for a time. Laverne was tenacious and spunky and this showed up in all the areas of her life! She enjoyed gardening, being with friends, boating out in the sound and fishing. She enjoyed Skipbo and card games, claimed part ownership of a particular yorkie, and was even known to on occasion visit a casino for some fun! She was the only 80+ year old who has yet accomplished wearing spike high heals to church and she made it look good! She enjoyed traveling all around the country. On one trip she got pulled over for exceeding 90mph in her Mitsubishi and the officer let her go because he hoped his grandmother would have the same get up and go as Lavern did! In one of her last trips in 2005 (much to the worry of her friends and family) she jumped in the car and drove to Nebraska and then down to Texas! In planning for the trip she said, ,"I don,'t need a map, I have been there before!," Laverne loved her family and there were a lot to love. As well as her 4 children, and their husbands and wives, she also had 17 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, and 3 great, great, grandchildren. She was very proud of her children and grand children often relating stories of this one or that one, showing pictures, and wanting to see them more. She loved them all as best she could through all the ups and downs and twists and turns this life sometimes threw her way. Laverne loved her friends. Where ever she went she would make friends. Some she had for years and years like Pearl, Betty, and Bob. As a true friend she loved and nurtured them in the joys of life and in even the hardships of sickness. Other friends were just for short times as she stayed in different homes, but she always would find those she would enjoy visiting with and sharing life together. She also had many friends from church. Laverne loved Jesus. She was baptized and committed to a relationship with Jesus Christ. She faithfully attended church and enjoyed very much the lively worship often sitting in the front section! She loved the potluck gatherings where she spent time with her church friends and often would bring her friends to church. She regularly read her Bible, enjoyed good sermons, and was looking forward to the return of Jesus Christ.Laverne has entered her rest and she will be missed by all of those who have known her. We look forward to the day when we are reunited with her, in the kingdom of God.
