Laura L Vogel's Obituary
Laura L. Vogel passed away on January 26, 2026 in Tacoma, Washington following a brief illness. She was born on October 4, 1941 in Willow, Oklahoma to Joseph and Emily (Dusek) Ferreira and grew up in Sayre, Oklahoma. She graduated from Sayre High School in 1959. After graduation, she moved to Ft. Smith, Arkansas to begin Nursing School. While there, she met and married Royce E. Holtman. They moved to St. Louis, Missouri and then relocated to Washington. They later divorced. On August 23, 1980, she married Lewis R. Vogel. They spent 27 wonderful years together until his passing in 2007.
Laura raised her children in Federal Way and was very active in their lives. She was a member of the PTA, helped with boy scouts and coached her daughter’s soccer team. She worked tirelessly in several masonic organizations. She was a member of Pyramid Chapter # 257 the Order of Eastern Star serving as Worthy Matron several times. She had the honor of being appointed to serve as a Grand Officer for Grand Chapter. She was a member of the Rhododendron Court No. 8 and served as Royal Matron. She was also a member of the First Christian Church of Puyallup. She had a passion for helping the homeless and volunteered at the local food bank for many years.
She loved to garden and was a Master Gardner. She had fond memories of working on her grandparent’s farm in Oklahoma and would feel the need to “dig in the dirt.” She was an avid crafter and had an entire room dedicated to sewing. She made quilts and usually had a cross-stitch hoop close by. She loved to go the farmer’s market and make homemade pickles, jams, and canned various fruits and vegetables. She had bird feeders on her patio that she loved to watch. She loved her grand dog, Willow and was happy to have her stay over when Willow’s people were away.
Laura worked at Virgina Mason until she retired. She and Lew loved to go camping and traveling and made several trips to Canada and a cross-country trip to Maine. She didn’t remain retired very long. She worked each year the Puyallup Fair and then began working at the Tacoma Dome. She found her passion working as an usher for the Tacoma Rainiers. She quickly became a fan and knew when any of the “kids” got called up to the big leagues. She loved watching the Mariners.
Laura is preceded in death by her mother, Emily Adkerson, husband, Lew Vogel and sister, Margaret Brame. She is survived by her children: Royce “R.E.” (Brenda) Holtman, Richard “Pete” (Sandy) Holtman and Reina (Randy) Probert; her grandchildren: Kyle (Chynna) Holtman, Tayler (Mike) Stolz, Alex (Aleah) Holtman, Matt (Cheyenne) Holtman, and Randi (Adam Smith), 8 great grandchildren and her brother, Bill Adkerson.
She will be greatly missed.
