Laura L. Umphenour's Obituary
Laura Louise Umphenour (Owens) After 88 great years, Louise Umphenour passed away February 22, 2009. She was born September 13, 1920, in Lusk, Wyoming and was one of 5 children. She married Rex D. Umphenour on September 14, 1940, and built a wonderful life with him. They moved to Shelton, Washington in 1949 where Louise worked for Rayonier Inc. for twenty years. They had two daughters, three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Her beloved husband of 55 years passed away November 9, 1995. His passing broke all our hearts but she showed us all her resilience and revealed sides we hadn't previously seen as she continued to carry his spirit. Her strength was always apparent, both inner and outer. She is survived by her two daughters Georgia Thronson (Wayne) of Fircrest, Washington and Barbara Claxton of Columbus, Ohio; three grandchildren, Brad Thronson of Chandler, Arizona, Deanna Thronson of Fircrest, Washington and Stephen Claxton of Columbus, Ohio, and five great-grandchildren. I have had the privilege to know four grandparents and three great-grandparents. With Grandma's passing, I no longer have that living force in my life. But I do have everything they taught me and all the stories they told -- each one in their own special and significant way. I am thrilled that Grandma got to meet and got to know my son, Rex. As I honor my Grandparents in giving him that name, I also have a constant reminder to instill in him all the good they offered to me.
