Laura C. Ellingson's Obituary
Laura Christine Ellingson was born in Tacoma, Washington on September 24, 1919, and passed away on June 7, 2017 at the age of 97. She moved to Parkland when she was four years old, and lived there for 84 years before moving to Merrill Gardens of Tacoma in 2008.
Laura attended Parkland Grade School, Stewart Junior High, and graduated from Lincoln High School, class of 1937. She attended Tacoma Secretarial School and worked in an insurance office before taking a civil service job at McChord Field in 1940. She married Oswald Ellingson in 1939. He preceded her in death in 2003, after 64 years of marriage. She was a homemaker most of her life.
She was an avid golfer, with memberships in the University, Brookdale, and Lake Spanaway Women’s Golf Clubs, and a volunteer water aerobics leader for P.L.U.’s Second Wind program. Laura was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
In addition to her husband Oswald (Ozzie), she was predeceased by her parents Fred and Caryl Shevland, half sister Olive Dalin, brother Charles Shevland, sister Charlotte Nelson, and companion Clayton Dilworth. Laura is survived by sons Robert (Carolyn) and Carl Ellingson, daughters Janet Ungurs (Morrie) and Kathryn Ellingson, grandchildren Karen Bohl (Randy), Duane Ungurs (Mark), Denise Castillo (Paul), Diane LeBleu (Tom), six great-grandchildren, and many loving nieces, nephews and friends.
At Laura’s request, there will be no formal services. A private Graveside Committal Service will be held at Parkland Lutheran Cemetery at a later date.
