Larry Roger Nugent's Obituary
Larry Nugent was surrounded by his wife Joan, family and friends as he passed on to be with our Lord on Sunday, July 31, 2016. He turned 80 on June 12th this year and he and Joan celebrated their 60th Anniversary on July 7th.
Larry was born June 12, 1936 in Wenatchee, WA to his parents Dwight (Jim) and Vera Nugent. He spent his baby years in Cashmere and CleElum, Wa., then settling on the Western side of the state. At one point he lived on Lawrence Lake where he and his sister Carol learned to swim at a very young age. During his early school years, he lived in the Midland area where he met Joan Chesley, a neighborhood friend. He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1954. In 1955 he joined the Washington National Guard at Camp Murray for a term of 8 years.
On July 7th 1956, Larry married his sweetheart Joan (Chesley) Nugent. They moved to the Seattle area where he started his career with Pacific Northwest Bell, (later becoming US West). He transferred to the Auburn, WA area where he retired from US West in 1984. He was a lifelong member of the Tel. Co. Pioneers as well as the CWA (Communications Workers of America). He loved motorcycles and was a member of the Bells Angels.
Larry loved road trips on his Harley and also had a dirt bike for trail riding. He taught his three sons to ride dirt bikes and had many fun times in the woods riding trails and camping out. He also enjoyed skiing with his wife and sons. He and Joan loved sailing, canoeing, and motor boating. He loved all water sports like fishing, clam digging and scuba diving. He had an insatiable appetite for adventure and he filled his cup with many exciting adventures during his journey of life.
Larry is survived by his wife Joan, three sons, Scott (Janice) Nugent of Tacoma, Martin (Colleen) Nugent of Kelso, WA, Guy Nugent of Tacoma, three grandsons, Brandon, David and Jacob, and four great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Carol (Duane) Friesz of Spanaway, WA and his brother, Dennis (Margaret) Nugent of Gig Harbor, WA.
A memorial service will be held at Twin Cedars, 37301 28th Ave S, Federal Way, WA 98003, at 1pm on Saturday, August 27th.
