Dr. Larry Dale Heimark's Obituary
Larry Dale Heimark passed away unexpectedly on Friday August 23, 2013 while visiting friends in Big Bar, California. Larry was born on April 10, 1953 in Butte, Montana to Clarence Heimark and Rose Heimark who preceded him in death. In Tacoma, Larry started Jefferson Elementary School, and then went to Mason Junior High and Wilson High School graduating in 1971. He attended Western Washington University majoring in Chemistry and then went to graduate school at the University of Washington in the Department of Medicinal Chemistry where he worked with Dr. William F. Tragor on warfarin metabolism. He received his PhD in October 1984. He spent over twenty years working at the Schering-Plough Research Institute in New Jersey utilizing Mass Spectrometers on research projects and verifying the purity of pharmaceuticals. Larry patented an antifungal drug and published several research publications and book chapters. In 2009 he returned to Tacoma to take care of his mother who passed away in 2012. He was an active hiker, sailor, runner and talented guitarist. He will be remembered for his unwavering devotion to friends and family.
Larry is survived by his brother Ronald Heimark, his cousin Valarie Heimark, his cousins Marlene Bachmann and her husband Jerry, and Irlee Stagemeyer, his wife Rosemary and their children and grandchildren. In remembrance of Larry Heimark an Endowed Scholarship in Chemistry at Western Washington University has been established.
Viewing will be held from 3:00-8:00 PM Thursday, September 5, 2013 at Mountain View Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 12:30 PM Friday, September 6, 2013 at Mountain View Memorial Park.
