Kory L. Shaffer's Obituary
Kory Lane Shaffer was born October 17, 1969 in Richland, Washington. He was tragically taken from us unexpectedly on May 12th, 2017. Kory graduated from Curtis High School in 1988. Kory served 23 years in law enforcement, 17 with the Pierce Country Sheriffs Department. He was highly respected by his peers and throughout the law enforcement community.
Kory was a devoted family man who loved and cherished his wife and daughters. He was their biggest cheerleader and supporter in life. His family was his world, and everyone that knew him knows he was the most loving husband and best dad.
He was always the life of the party. Where Kory was, everyone wanted to be. He was the biggest prankster and practical joker. Kory was a best friend to many and if you were in his circle of friends, you knew there would never be a dull moment. He was the ultimate host and the straw that stirred the drink. Kory loved being in the sunshine, boating, wake boarding, racquetball, music, dancing, singing, poker, yard work, and of course Coors Light.
Kory was not only a family man, but a highly respected deputy. Kory had a tight brotherhood within his department that loved and admired him. He received many awards in the most humble manner and was quick to give praise to others for his individual achievements. He won Deputy of the Year in 2007, the Medal of Merit, along with the Medal of Valor, in 2016, just to name a few.
Kory is survived by his high school sweetheart and loving wife, Kori, his two daughters Kylee and Kaycee, his brother Kirt, his wife Laurie and their daughters Jessie and Avery, his grandmother Alice, sister-in-law Tyel Nikolao, her husband Troy and their daughter Ryen, and father-in-law Dick Thorestad. He was preceded in death by his mother-in-law Terri Thorestad, grandparents Arnie & Virginia Kaegi and grandpa Jack Shaffer.
Services to be held Thursday, May 18th at 1:00, at University Place Presbyterian Church located at 8101 27th Street West, followed by a procession to the New Tacoma Cemetery located at 9212 Chambers Creek Road West.
