Kimberly Rivers' Obituary
Kimberly Michelle Rivers passed away peacefully on September 21, 2017, due to complications associated with Ovarian cancer, in her Spanaway home surrounded by family. This was her wish to be in the comfort of her own home with family at her side. She was born to parents Charles Curless and Eileen Petkus on June 14, 1967 in Denver Colorado.
She graduated from Lincoln High School, Denver, Colorado in 1985, pursued her bachelor’s degree and graduated from Colorado State University as a member of Alpha Phi Sorority in 1990. Kimberly married Kenneth Rivers on Sep 4, 1994 in Denver, Colorado. She supported Kenn’s military career moving to Okinawa Japan and enjoyed travelling throughout Asia. Kim always loved the water and had been a competitive swimmer since age 7. She continued to swim for over a decade throughout school and with local swim clubs in Denver. On Okinawa, Kim successfully coached the American Swim Club as they competed on Okinawa, mainland Japan, as well as the islands of Saipan and Guam. She was a swim instructor at Kinder Swimmer in Spanaway, WA; teaching infants, toddlers and youth how to swim.
She was a member of Life Center Rainier Church of Tacoma, WA. Throughout her life, Kimberly’s smile, enduring spirit and generosity shined as she gave freely her time and energy to others. Kim worked various jobs over the years, but most enjoyed working with students in the Bethel school district. She had a special passion and really enjoyed being a mother & raising her three beautiful children.
She is survived by her loving husband Kenneth, along with their three children Darrian, Brianna and Kyle of Spanaway. She is also survived by her parents Charles and Eileen Curless of Granby, Colorado, her brother Sean Curless, his wife, Tiffany, and sons, Asher and Sawyer of Littleton, Colorado. Kimberly is preceded in death by her twin brother, Christopher Curless.
The family would like to give appreciation to the staff at Multicare Hospice and Madigan Army Medical Center for their loving support and care of Kimberly over the course of the last 2 years of her life. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that all gifts be sent to St Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
