Kenneth Lawrence Webb's Obituary
Kenneth Lawrence Webb,. 68, was born on October 10, 1956 to Lawrence and Dorothy Webb, in Tacoma, Washington. He passed away unexpectedly, on February 26, 2025, at an adult group home in Parkland, Washington, following a battle with kidney and heart disease.
Ken spent his youth enjoying many family activities including playing Canasta and Tripoly with family and friends, also camping, hiking, swimming, going on treasure hunts (metal detecting), vacationing in Disneyland, spending time visiting with aunts and uncles in Santa Cruz and Stockton, California, and having fun going to Virginia City, Nevada (panning for gold), and Reno. He also enjoyed overnight stays at Yellowstone National Park, in Wyoming, sleeping in quaint log cabins. Ken loved going to our astronomy club’s viewing sites to marvel at seeing the constellations, the Little and Big Dippers, the Milky Way, the planets Mercury, Venus, and Mars, the Moon and much more.
In 1968, when Ken was 11 years old, He went with his dad to the Oregon Museum of Science and Technology in Portland, Oregon. Ken, with his dad lifting him up, could see, in amazement, the wonders of our solar system through the lens of a telescope. This special time was captured on the front page of the Oregon Journal Newspaper on June 29, 1968.
Ken had a joy for woodworking and created treasured items. Ken’s greatest of all enjoyment came from playing chess and learning from the masters. When Ken was in junior high school, and along with his brother Dennis, they joined a chess club. He continued his love for chess by playing in chess tournaments and with his family and friends. Playing chess was a constant passion of his throughout his life. Ken was also an avid book reader, with his favorites being books about science fiction and “The Lord of the Rings. He also loved books authored by Edgar Rice Burroughs and Edgar Allan Poe.
Ken graduated from Mount Tahoma High School in 1975, and from Tacoma Community College. After graduating, Ken and his brother Dennis, enlisted in the United States Navy as a Corpsman and served their country at 29 Palms, California, Okinawa, Japan, and Camp LeJeune, North Carolina. While stationed in Okinawa, Ken hiked Mount Fuji and received his Cold Weather Training. Following his discharge from the Navy, Ken worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant, and as a Home Health Caregiver.
Ken later married and had a son, Matthew, and moved to Wisconsin where he worked in cabinetry making, Later, at some point, he became homeless, until the opening of the Nativity House Apartments in Tacoma, Washington. He lived there for about 10 years. Ken then moved to a very nicely run adult group home in Parkland, Washington where he lived until he sadly passed away, 4 days later. Ken was preceded in death by his father, Lawrence D. Webb in 2011, and his mother, Dorothy M. Webb (Kembel) in 2007. He is survived by his son, Matthew K. Webb, brother, Dennis G. Webb, sister, Karen D. Sisley (Loren),, Nieces, Elizabeth K. Gainey (Kevin), Rebecca M. Hodge (Rydell), Anna M. Webb, and Nephews, Michael G. Webb (Yasmin) and Christopher M. Hirn.

Funeral services will be held at the Garden Chapel on Tuesday, March 18th at 11:00am, with viewing beginning at 10:00am Mountain View Funeral Home, 4100 Steilacoom Blvd SW, Lakewood, WA 98499
