Master Sergeant, US Army, RetiredKenneth M. Hangartner of Lakewood, WA, passed away on Wednesday, November 10, 2004. He was born in Chicago, IL on July 16, 1923. He is survived by his wife, Georgette of 58 years; sons Ronald (Sara) of Escondido, CA and Rick (Judie) of Port Angeles, WA; 2 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Ken was a devoted husband, father, and a great friend to all who knew him.Ken was a WWII Veteran who served as a combat infantryman with the 34th Infantry Division in Italy and a Korean War Veteran, who served with the 25th Infantry Division as a heavy mortar noncommissioned officer. During his career, he served overseas in Turkey, Germany, Vietnam and several military bases in the United States. He retired from the Army at Fort Lewis, WA in 1966 after 20 years of service. His decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, two Army Commendation Medals, two Combat Infantryman Badges, and several combat campaign and service medals.Visitation will be from 11:00 am to 9:00 pm on Thursday, November 18, 2004 at Mt. View Funeral Home. Funeral services will be in the Mt. View Garden Chapel at 1:00 pm, Friday, November 19, 2004. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the charity of your choice.
