I wish I had known that Mr. Deroche passed in 2014. I would have attended his Celebration of Life. For years I meant to thank him for all his help. I am sorry that I did not.
He was my teacher in about 1961 and my mentor when I was doing my student teaching in 1972. Now I am a retired math teacher after forty years in the class room. All my students are in a way, his students. They number in the thousands.

Sympathies to Mr DeRoche's family... Mrs DeRoche was my 5th grade teacher at Lister Elementary back many years ago...
I taught with Ken at Sheridan Elementary for four years. He was such great fun! Ken was an avid reader and loved to discuss aspects of the books he read. Besides his bridge playing, he developed another talent, that of winemaking. He shared many of his tasty red wines with friends. I can still hear his hearty laugh! Mr. DeRoche would probably not remember me but he will be forever engraved in my memory. I don't remember a whole lot about my 6th grade year in 1977 but I do remember the dixie cup of peanuts I would win for calculating math problems the quickest and most accurately. I was in the other 6th grade class but went to Mr. DeRoche for math and where I remember falling in love with mathematics. It all makes sense now when I see he had a BA in math...no wonder he is one of only 2 teachers I can remember in school that influenced me to become a High School Math Teacher. I am very sorry for your loss but please know that because of him teaching me the love and the foundation of mathematics I am able to share this with classrooms full of teenagers.

My condolences to the family for your loss. I remember growing up with Mr. and Mrs. DeRoche coming over for bridge with my mom and dad (Georgia and Jeff Farman) every Friday night for as long as I can remember. I only saw Kenneth a few times in the last few years when he was playing bridge at the same club as my mom, and he always remembered me and asked about my family. Having lost my dad only 2 years ago, I know he will be missed by many.
