Kee Sung Monroe's Obituary
Our mother Kee Sung Monroe passed away peacefully on May 13th at the age of 80 years of age. Kee Sung was born on Feb 23, 1943, in Seoul, Korea into a large family of eleven children.
Mom experienced the tumultuous years of the Korean War as a child. She and her family endured heart wrenching tragedy during that time. Mom met our father in Korea in the early 70s. Dad was an US Army soldier. Although he was younger than her, he instantly fell in love and the two were married. Our father brought his Korean family, Kee and Tung Yoga, to the US and welcomed his daughter, Susanna into the world. Their second daughter, Dianna, was born during a tour in Germany. For the next fifteen years, Mom was a military wife, working at the military commissary to support the family.
Sadly, Mom was widowed by the time she was 46. Mom was determined to give her children a fulfilling and stable life in Tacoma WA. Mom’s two sisters joined her in the US and as roommates in Snoqualmie, WA. The three lived, loved, and fought like all sisters do.
Our mom was the most honest and direct person we have ever known. She was hard working and took pride in her children. We will deeply miss our mom with her spirited nature, her crazy Korean sayings, her undying love for her children and grandchildren, and mostly, her stubbornness and drive to NEVER give up.
Mom is survived by her three children, Tung Yoga, Susanna, and Dianna and her four grandchildren – Jacob, Danica, Davin, and Alexander. We love you Mom and you will be forever in all of our hearts!
