Kay C. Komp's Obituary
Kay Cologerou Komp
Born March 7, 1918 to Greek immigrant parents in Tacoma, Washington.
She was 92 years old at the time of her passing on May 27, 2010. She was
the third child. Her brothers were John and Steven. Her sisters were Keke
and Athena.
Kay married William M. Komp on October 11, 1946. They were wedded
For 43 years until Bill's death on December 10. 1989. The couple had no
Children.
Kay graduated from Lincoln High School the class of 1936.
In her professional life, Kay brought her training in business school to
The local economy in many local industries, but lastly as office manager
For Cartozian and Sons Fine Carpets, retiring with the establishment after
Twenty-five years. She enjoyed belonging to Credit Women of Tacoma.
At the time of her death, Kay was a member for First Christian Church,
Where she joined in 1997. Prior to that she was a member of East Side
Christian Church for forty years, Kay was active in worship, fellowship,
Volunteering and she accepted position of leadership and roles of increasing
Responsibility within her spiritual communities.
Kay always made sure that the widows of East Side had transportation for
Sunday lunch after services were over.
Later in life a phone call to St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Tacoma
Made it possible for Kay and her brother and sisters to be reunited with
Cologerou cousins in New York and Boston. Their reunion was a very
Memorable occasion. Kay kept ties with those cousins. She even made
Regular phone calls to Greece to stay in touch with one of the cousins
Who moved back -Å"home.-
In her early years, Kay took a keen interest in the lives of her nieces and
Nephews. She and Bill often hosted barbeques on their patio during the
Summer. In November during those years, their home was the site for
The annual pickled herring preparation. Many friends looked forward to
To their delicious treats.
Kay had a love of reading and playing cards. She had a talent for making
Hand-sewn teddy bears.
She enjoyed flying the America flag.
Prior to apartment living, Kay always loved having a cat and or dog.
They were an important part of her life.
Kay was a first generation Greek American. She was proud that her mother Walked to the local high school after a full day's work to study for and Fulfill her dream of US citizenship.
She is survived by her sister Athena McCutchan and her nieces and nephews: Bob McCutchan, Marian (Panos) Palas, Carol Cologerou, John Cologerou (Katrina), Gary Bishop, Ron Bishop, Karen Komp and special friend Roseanne Schenk Bagley.
