Kathleen M. Safley's Obituary
Kathleen Marie Safley
(Jacobsen)
March 13,1930 – October 7, 2013-10-13
Kathy passed peacefully in the presence of a true friend. Her wish was to not have her family see her pass and this courageous, amazing woman orchestrated her death just as she did her life, losing her fight with cancer but maintaining her dignity, indescribable humility and an orderliness which were evident in all aspects of her time on earth. Her sincere but carefully guarded spirituality were abundantly apparent in her daily works with friends and family. God’s servant will be welcomed and she believed that.
Kathy was born during a time of challenge in our country in the small town of Audubon, Iowa. She was the third of seven born to Mabel and Bill. Her struggles growing up built a character and resolve that armed her to meet future strife head on. These beginnings also had joys and triumphs throughout her childhood and life. Believe me; she knew how to have fun.
After graduating from Audubon High School, Kathy moved to Denver, initiating her life long career as a dedicated and invaluable employee of any company insightful enough to hire her. While in Denver she met Robert Clark Safley, whom she would marry. Bob was in the Air Force and his career took Kathy all over the Central and Eastern US, as well as England and Germany. While in England, Kathy and Bob welcomed into their lives a son, Thomas Steele. Five years later Bob died in an accident while they were stationed in Michigan.
Kathy and Tom moved to Audubon for one year in 1961, then to the Pacific Northwest in 1962, where we lived until her passing.
My Mom was clever, keen witted, frugal, generous, fastidious and LOVING. I need a small novel to describe her efforts at Motherhood. I miss her so much it physically hurts.
Nanna was a dedicated Grandmother to Sydney Marie, Sofie Dianne and Morgan Kay. They loved their Nanna with all their hearts.
