Katherine Lillian Magnuson's Obituary
Kay passed away on December 31, 2004 at home in Tacoma surrounded by her family.She was preceded in death by husband Herman Magnuson (her soul mate), parents Harry and Erma Gifford, and sister Jean Pelletier. Kay is survived by bother, Harry Gifford of Tacoma; daughter Barbara Green, (Garry) Scottsdale, AZ, son, James Magnuson, (Kim) Renton and son, Jeff Magnuson, Federal Way, nieces (Theresa, Mary, Troy and Erin) in-laws (Oliver, Marie and Sylvia). She was blessed with grandchildren (Tabetha, Garry, Katy, Joe, Jeff, Jamie, Jacob, Natasha) and great grandchildren (Annabelle and Brandon) along with many other loving family members and friends.Kay was born and grew up in Tacoma, WA, graduating from Pacific Lutheran University in 1972 with a Bachelor of Arts in Education, Cum Laude. Kay retired from BrownÂ's Point Elementary in 1999, where she enjoyed teaching 1, 300 kindergarten students over her 27 year career. KayÂ's success as an educator is celebrated in the successful lives of countless former students.KayÂ's goal in life was caring for others. Her main focus was always her family. Kay wrote Â"let it be known that I love you allÂ...my love will never fade over timeÂ...please remember to keep the family tradition aliveÂ...be the new story tellers, there is a lot to tell?Â" She wished for us to stay a family unit. She was our matriarch (a woman highly respected by her family and to one whom turns for guidance and support), the head of our clan. The Magnuson home was always open to family and friends. Her touch extended far beyond her immediate family. KayÂ's compassion and willingness to help other was the center of her spirit. No one could ever replace her, she was the guiding light of our family.Viewing will be from 12:00 PM Â- 9:00 PM on Wednesday, January 5 and Thursday, January 6, 2005. Memorial service will be held at 12:00 PM on Friday, January 7, 2005 in the Mt. View Celebration of Life Center.
