Karolina Robertson's Obituary
On Tuesday, August 7, 2018, Karolina Robertson passed away at the age of 85. Our hearts are breaking, but hearts that are broken, are hearts that are loved. We lost a mother and a grandmother. Karolina was born in Unternberg, Germany on December 14, 1932 and was one of 10 children growing up on the family farm. As a young women she moved to Munich and was a receptionist for a dentist. She had the opportunity to be a governess for a family in Laguna Beach, CA for a summer. She travelled by boat to Ellis island, then on to California. While there, she met her future husband, Roger Robertson, at a military dance. He pursued her and within a year they were married. They relocated to Lakewood, WA and started their own family. She never moved back to Germany but did visit a few times. Karolina and Roger had three children together: Matthew, Antoinette and Carla. They were married for ten years - then tragedy struck when Roger passed away at the age of 42. From then on, Karolina poured herself into raising her three children alone. Once her family was grown, she had a few jobs to keep her busy; but her main focus and pride were her 6 grandchildren. She remained fiercely independent and stayed in the home she and Roger built until July of 2018. Mom stood by her strong belief in God, her desire for independence and her healthy lifestyle. Other involvements were: Tacoma Symphony Women, Lakewood Garden Club, The Lakewood Racquet Club, and Little Church on the Prarie where she served as a Deaconess, volunteering with elderly shut-ins. In her last weeks when she moved to assisted living to be closer to her family, her face would light up with delight whenever they would visit. She enjoyed being with the other residents and especially liked to walk with her new friend; although her breath was weak and her steps were labored. Rest now mom; breathe easy; know your work here is done.
When God greets you, He'll say, Hallelujah! You're home.
