Karl Dearing's Obituary
Karl Dearing, a devoted husband, father, Opa, brother, uncle, and lifelong creator, passed away peacefully at his home in University Place, Washington, on June 8, 2025, at the age of 69.
Born in Nürnberg, Germany, on October 5, 1955, Karl moved to the Pacific Northwest as a child, where he would build a life full of love, creativity, and purpose. He attended Jason Lee Junior High, where he met his soulmate, Debby. Their love story spanned more than five decades, recently celebrating 50 years of marriage—a testament to their enduring bond.
Karl graduated from Stadium High School in 1975 and earned an associate's degree in architectural engineering from Evergreen College. He went on to enjoy a remarkable 40-year career with Boeing, where his precision, ingenuity, and dedication left a lasting mark.
Outside of work, Karl was a man of many passions. A gifted musician, he found joy in strumming his guitar and singing the timeless tunes of Van Morrison, Jim Croce, Cat Stevens, Steve Miller, Ed Sheeran and other favorites from his youth. His artistic spirit also found expression in stained glass, through which he created countless beautiful pieces. Karl had a green thumb and a deep love for gardening, often found tending to his plants with care and patience.
Affectionately known as “MacGyver”, he was a natural tinkerer—handy, inventive, and always ready to fix broken items or build something new. A talented craftsman and passionate DIYer, Karl poured his heart into restoring and improving two beautiful homes over the years and generously lent his skills to help friends and family with their own projects. Though some might have called him a pack rat, those who knew him best understood he was simply well-prepared for any repair or project that came his way.
A gentle soul with a big heart, Karl had a special place in his heart for animals, often caring for strays and giving them a loving home. But above all, Karl was a family man. His greatest joy came from the time he spent with Debby, their children, and grandchildren. His love, wisdom, and quiet strength will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
Karl is survived by his beloved wife Debby; his children, Nathan, and Stacy (Ryan); and granddaughters Haley and Karly; and a wide circle of family and friends who will carry his memory forward with love and gratitude.
A stranger was never a stranger, but a friend, to Karl.
