Karen was born April 9, 1943 in Tacoma, WA to father Francis Charles Smith and mother Ruby Smith-Lucke. Karen spent most of her life in Puyallup, WA where she had an exemplary career as a school bus driver for the Puyallup School District. She primarily drove bus for handicapped students and spent many hours gathering donations for their annual Christmas celebrations where she would dress as Mrs. Claus for the student’s enjoyment. She also spent years working for and managing multiple cotton candy booths at the Western Washington (Puyallup) Fair. Many of our family and friends have memories of either working for her spinning cotton candy or benefitting from it.
Karen led a very full life. She primarily enjoyed tending her flower garden and travelling. She and her husband loved traveling to Europe where they could spend time with their grandchildren and watch their son play basketball. They also frequently went on cruises to different locations with family and friends.
She spent the last few years of her life living in Florida with her daughter where she enjoyed spending time at the beach and sitting around the pool loving the warm weather.
Karen felt her greatest accomplishment was her family. She will be remembered as a very loving wife, mother and grandmother.
There will be a memorial service for Karen on June 17th, 2023 at 1:00pm to be held at Mt. View Funeral Home in Lakewood, WA.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations to be made to The Alzheimer’s Association at ALZ.org
Karen will forever be loved and missed by many.
