Karen Elaine Engels
Karen Elaine Engels was born in Tacoma, WA on August 29, 1939, and she went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on February 2, 2012 surrounded by loving family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents Clara Engels (Horst), Nicholas John Engels, and stepfathers Nick J. Cimino and Joseph Valenta. She is survived by her siblings: Nick (Diane) Engels of Puyallup, WA, Jon (Carol) Engels of Edgewood, WA, Kerry (Darlene) Engels of Puyallup, WA, Kathy (Terry) Callies, of Anchorage, AK, and Penny (Vic) Boyer of Yelm, WA and many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. Karen was a devoted Christian, dedicated teacher who loved all children, caregiver who loved all God's creatures, especially horses and cats, and a loving daughter, sister and aunt. Karen received the prestigious Christa McAuliffe Excellence in Teaching Award, was adored by her students and their parents, and revered by her peers. She even utilized her equestrian skills with special needs children, teaching them to learn how to ride horses. She was truly a gifted and dynamic first grade teacher for 30 years in the Sumner School District. Services for Karen will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, February 10th at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church located at 1515 Harrison Ave. N.W., Olympia, WA. A luncheon reception will follow the church service. Graveside services and internment will follow at Mountain View Funeral Home located at 4100 Steilacoom Blvd., Lakewood, WA, with a viewing on site 8am to 9pm Thursday, February 9th.
